Some Of The Possible Causes Of Autism

By Leigh Stratbor

Autism is a developmental disorder of the brain. Those who have display poor or no communication and a lack of social interaction as well as repetitive behavior. This disease is thought to originate in the fetal or immediately after birth stages and thus the postulated causes all stem from events that may take place during those times.

It is important to state that no has put forward a proven theory for the possible causes of this disease. However, many scientists make educated guesses about the potential culprits. These include: genetic factors, toxins and some of the common vaccines that are used to help to prolong life.

While the theory of malfunctioning genes as a possible culprit is not proven, it is a good one that gives researchers a lot of insight. Chromosomal abnormalities, rare deletions and duplications and even rare defects are quite possibly where the scientist see the most connection to this disease. Some journal articles will mention hereditary but few give a clear mechanism of action of just how this disorder is originated.

Some scientists have blamed vaccines for the development of this mental disorder in children. They theorize that the vaccines, particularly the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine hurt more than they help. This is a very controversial theory that has lost steam in recent times due to the controversy surrounding those who put it forward and also due to the unnecessary exposure of children to diseases that could severe outbreaks.

Environmental and other types of toxins can play a significant role in the development of may neural disorders like this one. Teratogens, heavy metals, cigarette smoke, alcohol and even pesticides can cause extreme danger to the developing fetus especially if it is exposed during the early stages of pregnancy. As a general rule, pregnant women should consult their physicians about the possible avenues of exposure and avoid them.

Autism is an extremely complex disease that gives scientists little to no clues of its inner workings. The manifestations of the disease are obvious but not much else is clear. There is no true way to prevent it, if you do not know what causes it but try as best as possible to protect you and your child by limiting exposure to toxins and other potentially harmful agents.

The Different Types Of Treatments For Autism

By Tiffany Larson

Autism interferes with the abilities, socialization and communication, of its sufferers. The developmental disability involves failure of the brain in multiple locations. Although effects vary with each case, there are many treatments for autism.

It is important to try to diagnose the condition early. This is especially true in cases involving young people. In children, if the disability is treated early, the individual still has an opportunity to develop. Most treatment is centered on restoring the complete function ability of an individual.

The behaviors and symptoms of sufferers vary in numerous ways, including their severity. Furthermore, symptoms are likely to change over a period of time. Because of this, treatment methods are tailored to each individual based on their personal needs and available resources.

Most children that have this condition show a good response to treatments that are both structured and specialized. Many programs offer help to parents and work towards fixing the communication, social, adaptive, behavioral and learning skills of affected children. Popular treatment methods: parent training, specialized therapy, behavioral training, community support and behavioral management.

Behavioral training and managements utilize social skill training, self-help, communication and positive reinforcement. Occupational, speech and physical therapies typically fall under the category of specialized therapy and are used to manage the condition. Medicine is another option and is most often used in cases where there is obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, hyperactivity, anxiety or behavioral problems. Individuals who are interested in parent training or community support groups should go through their doctor or speak with a local advocacy organization.

Auditory integration training and secretin have been considered alternative treatments for autism. Still, many new methods have not yet been tested on a large group of people and proven to be successful. Do thorough research on any form of treatment before trying it out. Overall, there are many strategies that are effective when tailored to each individual. To date, there is no known prevention for the disability.

Detecting Autism Symptoms - The Earlier The Better

By Alison Heath

Autism is a brain disorder that persists throughout adulthood and begins in early childhood, usually around the age of 3. It affects crucial areas of development.

Autistic behavior is exclusive to human beings above the age of five and children who suffer from this lacks the ability to see things from other people's perspective.

When it comes to autistic traits, they continue into adulthood but they vary in severity. There are adults with autism who earn college degrees, live independently, and does really well. Others, however, may be incorrectly diagnosed with a variety of psychiatric illness since they never developed the skills of daily living.

Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder with an unknown origin. It's considered not as a mental illness but rather a bioneurological disorder. Genetics or viral and chemical exposure during pregnancy could be the cause according to some theories. Diagnosis is based on a list of psychiatric criteria as well as a series of standardized clinical tests are also used.

Surprisingly some autistic individuals may be outstandingly good at some kinds of mental manipulations for example, arithmetical calculations, music, drawing etc.

Although there are no indications of a cure for autism, with intense practice, schooling, and therapy, children with autism can improve their social and other skills until they can participate in social events.

Two of the related categories of autism are Asperger's syndrome and developmental delay syndromes. The reason why these syndromes exist is because of brain circuitry problems.

Looking for symptoms found in sensory integration dysfunction is a key indicator to physicians assessing autism, and this involves children exhibiting problems like oversensitivity to touch, sights, etc. and clumsiness, poor body awareness, and a tendency to be easily distracted. Autistic people may experience difficulty in hearing certain people's voice while others' are louder than usual.

What Is Autism And The Generated Behavioral And Mental Impairments?

By Robin Rohrs

A complex neurological disorder that dramatically affects people's social interactions and behaviors is autism. This disorder can be revealed by the age of 3. Although the first signs of autism can sometimes be identified in infants, the disorder is usually discovered at a later stage of life. Autistic children present a wide range of behavioral abnormalities, and they can be easily identified among normal children. Unlike normal children who want the company of other kids and long for their parent's love and presence, autistic children show no interest to the people around them.

Children with autism can have a major behavioral characteristic called egocentrism in which they ignore their caretakers or mothers and avoid interacting with them. Autistics develop repetitive, stereotype behaviors in early childhood and they become upset if their routine is perturbed. Head-banging and other self-harm activities are also what autistic children may engage in.

Autistic children also have impaired communication skills. Others refuse to speak at all while some find it difficult to express themselves. Autistics are generally withdrawn, passive, and low-responsive. In many cases, they even avoid making eye contact with other people.

When it comes to autism, it can be pronounced or mild. Children who suffer from milder forms of autism are usually very intelligent. The children's emotional intelligence and social interaction skills are the only effects for this category and their judgment is left intact. Despite the fact that these children have poor adaptation and social interaction skills, they may have very good logic and excel at math or other similar areas. Children who has severe autism can suffer mental retardation. Progress is rarely made from these children though the development of mentally retarded autistic children is very slow.

Medical science still hasn't identified the exact causes of autism but genetic factors is believed to have very important roles in the occurrence of the disorder. Abnormalities at the level of the central nervous system involves autism and they're suspected to occur on genetic dysfunction premises.

The neurological damage caused by the disorder can't be reversed by medical treatments since autism has no cure. But when it comes to the effects of autism, medical treatments can minimize it. Children's development can be supported and their symptoms kept under control if they're prescribed an appropriate medical treatment.

With the aid of medical treatments and the support of their families, autistic children can eventually be integrated into the society.
